CTAM Webinars

Join us in 2025 for our free webinar program. We are striving to provide a webinar each month to help theatres in the state to connect, share ideas and learn how to solve their problems with best practices and knowledge from our members across the state.

How our webinars work:

Simply register for the webinar you’re interested in via our Ludus events page. Once you register there you will get a reminder email one week prior to the webinar and the day before the webinar that will include a link to the Zoom. Registration is free, but we gladly accept donations. This allows us to track our attendance effectively and communicate with all potential attendees of any changes.

Tuesday, April 22 @ 7 pm
Roundtable: VOLUNTEERS

April is volunteer month and we have two experts in the field ready to provide you ideas for engaging, acknowledging and retaining those theatre volunteers. With this forum we hope to give you ways to acknowledge volunteers to help retain and recruit.  From simple acts of acknowledgments to those that may take some time and effort we hope to give you ideas on how to recognize and keep your volunteer happy.  We welcome you all to join and share your stories as well.

Webinar Leaders:

Mike Artis is the Director of Volunteers for the Kalamazoo Civic Theatre and the former Production Stage Manager.  Mike has over 20 years professional experience in theatre and has been involved both onstage and behind the scenes for over 40 years.  Having started as a volunteer in theatre has given Mike an inside perspective on what it takes to make volunteers feel welcome and appreciated.

Mary Jo DeNolf also started as a volunteer with Grand Rapids Civic Theatre and moved into the staff position of Director of Volunteers and Operations for 23 years.  Currently she is the Patron Services Manager at Circle Theatre Grand Rapids.

Webinar: Producing New Works

Workshop Leader: Trinity Bird, Executive Director at The Sauk

Since 2014, The Sauk in Jonesville, Michigan, has hosted its annual Plays-in-Development series, dedicated to fostering new theatrical works. Each year, they present staged readings of new and in-process plays, followed by post-performance discussions to engage audiences and gather valuable feedback for playwrights. The Sauk also has a history of producing new works in their annual “Shorts Shorts,” “24-Hour Theatre” and, sometimes, in their main season as well.

In this session, you’ll learn how the Plays-in-Development series was created, its impact on the theatre and community, how it helped introduce an audience to accepting new works and practical tips for launching similar initiatives in your own organization.

About Trinity Bird:
Trinity Bird has served as The Sauk’s Executive Director since 2015, though his involvement began in 1997 as an actor, director, and volunteer. His directing credits at The Sauk include Les Misérables, Titanic, Pippin, two AACT NewPlayFest world premieres and his own original adaptation of A Christmas Carol. Trinity’s experience with new works development and community engagement makes him the perfect guide for this masterclass.
