2019 Scenic Painting Class @ Tawas Bay

We are excited to offer a SCENIC PAINTING CLASS, hosted by our friends at Witz End Players

SCENIC PAINTING with KATHERINE R MISHLER

This class will discuss topics such as color theory in scenic art, as well as specific textures used in scenic painting. There will be a short lecture on the basics of scenic design and painting, followed by a demonstration and instructional period of four of the main textures used in interior scenic painting in which the class will participate. A short demonstration of exterior scenic textures will be done toward the end of the class. Participants should expect to get a little messy, so dress appropriately, and be ready to mix, texture, and have fun. The class is $35 per person, includes supplies as well as a light lunch.

This class is Saturday, March 9th from 10 am – 2 pm

ABOUT KATHERINE R MISHLER

Katherine is a recent graduate of Saginaw Valley State University Theatrical and Arts Department. This past December she graduated with her bachelorette degree in technical theatre, with a focus in lighting design, electrics, scenic art, and illustration. Katie is no stranger to the technical world, before completing her degree, she held positions at multiple theatres across the country. Her most recent position was held at The Lee Street Theatre in Salisbury, North Carolina, as the Scenic Charge Artist. She also held a position at The Actors Guild of Parkersburg (West Virginia) as a Technical Director for the 2017 summer season. She’s held positions as a lighting designer and scenic artist for companies such as the Temple Theatre, Pit and Balcony Theatre, and the Palace Theatre. She is currently the lighting designer for the Saginaw Choral Society in Saginaw, Michigan. 

During her collegiate program, Katie was the president of her University’s chapter of Alpha Psi Omega, a national honor fraternity. She also held positions on executive boards for Alpha Psi and a comedy improv group called Work N Progress. She also held membership with the United States Institute for Theatre Technology, and attended the festival multiple times, twice as a student, and once as a designing participant. She also attended and participated in the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival and has received six Certificates of Merit for Technical Achievement and design from the Kennedy Center. Her most recent lighting designs include Death By Design, Big Fish, Really Really, and How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. Her scenic charge portfolio includes Big Fish, Around the World in 80 days, Assassins, 9 to 5 the Musical, and The Mystery of Irma Vep. 
Her passion for theatre and art began in the third grade, in a class production of Alice in Wonderland. Since then she’s had a dream of pursuing theatre, and upon entering high school, discovered lighting design and scenic painting was her calling. She has great joy for creating and sharing the world of theatre and art. It is through hard work, dedication, and a strong passion to create that has lead her to such amazing opportunities.
